19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

Success also indicates he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He saved four early chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
